Writer's Commentary: Candy Everybody Wants

I struggled with this offering for some time. I assure, I struggled mightily. But it was a struggle nonetheless.
I tried to go literal and have the story be all about candy. Then I tried to go to what I expect is the more common understanding of this song and go with the forbidden. Finally, I tried drugs, candy often used as a euphemism for them (at least during the era this song was recorded) and nothing quite flew.
The basic set up remained the same. Two female roommates. One in the know, one not. But they all sort of fell apart and either ran too long or just ended with nothing. It was all very frustrating.
When I finally settled on drugs with a candy chaser, it was as much out of running out of time as it was out of me liking the option.
I definitely would include this on the list of weaker efforts that never quite took off. I like the angle but maybe if I had abandoned it sooner for something all new, I could’ve utilized the song’s inspiration better.
