It doesn’t seem to matter
how much I practice
how much I try to make the words sing.
In the end, the request stays the same.
It all sounds like I’m a creep
or desperate
or worse.
The words never managing to capture my aim.
Because yes, of course, I mean to say
that I to be want to be with you
day and night
without an intention to make you tame.
“Run wild
Run free
Just make sure
You run back to me.”
But how strange that sounds, right?
Like aggressive and pathetic all at once?
If anyone received such a message
their lack of interest could receive no blame.
I can’t not speak the words though
no matter the discomfort.
For the lie of omission
feels worse even than the shame.
So that’s it, I suppose
The truth in black and white.
Sure I can survive without you
But why settle for a life so lame.
So tell me, please, tell me
if I’ve spooked you, or if,
even some flickering ember of you
might feel the same.
