January 10, 2020: Grace for Saints and Ramblers

Song: “Grace for Saints and Ramblers” by Iron and Wine from Ghost on Ghost

It has been said

By many, even Ted,

That love can’t be reduced to its source

But never by me, of course

They’ll tell you of all the collaterals

Those touched straight on or in laterals

That the all those in the wake celebrate

The world a deep love creates

This has a certain I can see

One that one can hardly deny to be

As we touch each one another

So does our love touch those who are other

It is a lovely thought and yet

It brings me a measure of upset

I love to think other love lifts those close

And yet it still leaves me a touch morose

Perhaps it is because I recall

That first kiss in the cold rain of fall

Or the time you screamed at me, so loud

Underneath our window did gather a crowd

Yes our love filled many lives, undeniably

And brought light to many reliably

But it began by random chance

And only we were there to push it past that single dance

I love you

And you love me, honest and true.

And I love everyone our love has to us drawn

Yes, even that Uncle, was his name Sean?

At some point, we will be split

By death or disease or some ill-advised fit

Neither of us can know when or where or how

Only that it will happen no matter the depth of the vow

And when it does, I need you to remember

That it was us in March, August, and December

No matter who else was or was not

We both remained Johnny on the Spot

So it shall be going on

Even you become the ugly duckling or remain the swan

When the dark comes and the clock freezes

Loving will remain the answer to what our expertise is

We started as us and only grew to

Them after time and experience we did accrue

So know we will end on us with or without the rest

The core will remain, you and I, and for that? I am blessed.
