My Best of...2024! Television Edition!
We turn to television for our next Best of 2024 list. Because of my work at The Spool, I see A LOT of television. And yet, you will likely see so much of my list in other best of 2024 lists. Not sure if that bolsters my choices or suggests TV might’ve been a bit thin this year. Still, what makes the top 20 here is very good and worthy of being called as much!
Grab the remote and take a look!
20. High Potential/Elsbeth- This is essentially the same show so this isn’t cheating. Also, I love me a quirky detective.
19. Big Door Prize- GONE TOO SOON!
18. What We Do in the Shadows- Not every show gets to end on its own terms. Even fewer end on their own terms while still being excellent. Shadows absolutely did so.
17. Manhunt
16. The Penguin- Colin Farrell, part 1. But really, Cristin Milioti. Not a lot of times I can think of where a Farrell co-star shows him up but she does so consistently and with ease. Great performance.
15. Agatha All Along
14. Silo
13. Nobody Wants This- Problematic in a way that I should’ve paid more attention to? Almost certainly. Still fell for its charms.
12. Hacks
11. Sweetpea- My “Why is no one talking about this?!” show of the year.
10. Shrinking- How I stopped worrying and learned to love this show and its dubious vision of therapy.
9. John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LA
8. One Day- I’m a romantic at heart. And sometimes I like feeling bittersweet about beautiful but doomed love.
7. Bad Monkey- I am forever susceptible to Vince Vaughn’s charms.
6. Sugar- Colin Farrell, part 2
5. A Man on the Inside- A delight. What a wonderful series to end the year with.
4. Evil- You all never appreciated this show enough!
3. Shogun
2. Slow Horses- A near-perfect streak continues.
1. Say Nothing
Worst
Tires
Apples Never Fall- Bad. But also a tremendous disappointment with that stacked cast.
Most Anticipated in 2025
Severance- see my review soon!
Stranger Things
Daredevil: Born Again- I regret to inform you I am who I am and am unlikely to ever fully change.
