January 4, 2018- Hands Down
“Hands Down” by Dashboard Confessional from A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar
I told her all
I wanted to say
Because TV, movies, comics, and songs
had convinced me that was the way
I unspooled my heart
for her with zeal
She stared at me
in shock, unsure if I was for real
I offered her my hand
after so we could skip
She declined with
a shrug and a long silent sip
What?!
I demanded
It’s a lot
she reprimanded
But love
I insisted
This is the first words you’ve said to me
she resisted
I sighed
flattening like an old balloon
She looked at me
sad for a buffoon
Did you really
expect more
She inquired
cutting me to the core
I shrugged and
confessed a small yes
A shake of the head and a
muttered, oh your heart, god bless
A date first
she explained
Is far less odd
she maintained
I thought on this
for a sec
And decided
what the heck
Oh no
she reeled
After all that?
This discomfort will never be healed.
So that’s why I
am on here
Explaining how that new movie
is just as SJW as you fear
