Marvel’s 20 New Movies

Between you, me, and the wall, I have been chosen to slate those 20 new Marvel movies Kevin Feige told everyone about earlier this year. Because I love you all, I’m letting you in on the secrets. Just, you know, keep it under your hat.

Promise? Awesome. I knew I could trust you.

(For the sake of this list, new movies means “not sequels” so Doctor Strange 2, etc do not count in the 20)

Marvel’s 20 New Movies

.)   Avengers West Coast- Is this cheat to use the Avengers name and still call it a new movie? You bet! And there’s nothing you can do about it! Hawkeye goes West and meets up with Ant-Man and Wasp. Valkyrie, after electing to stay on Earth joins too and we bring up Mockingbird from Double A. The final three slots go to new characters—Living Lightning, Tigra and Century. Yes, Century. Increased diversity in gender race and sexuality, great established characters with room to grown, new characters with easy to get surface origins but depth beyond that.

.)    Black Widow- Just doing the damn thing.

.)    Ms. Marvel- An absolute no brainer. A Jersey City teen finds she has powers, decides to follow the example of her hero, Captain Marvel, and become a super hero while trying to balance her parents’ academic and religious expectations of her.

.)    Guardians- We will have to find a new name, obviously, to prevent confusion, but otherwise, this is perfect. A group of normal kids meet an alien. No one believes them. Years later, they’ve drifted apart and the alien returns, needing help. This join together once more, some enthusiastically, others incredibly reluctantly. But even in this incredible situation, there are secrets waiting to be revealed. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opened up Marvel’s cosmic realm to us, time to play more in it.

.)    Avengers Academy- After the events of Thanos invasion, the need for lots of heroes is never more clear. So teens with powers or simply a motivation to help others show up at Camp Hammond—yes we are combined INITIATIVE and ACADEMY here—to be trained and, hopefully, in time, become the heroes they want to be. Betrayal, hormones, danger, and courage abound.

.)    Blue Marvel- An African American hero who disappeared just as he was gaining popularity and is now widely considered little more than an urban legend re-emerges in modern times. A scientific genius and incredibly powerful, he refuses to sit idly by and instead sets about re-engaging with society immediately, gaining allies and enemies with rapid speed.

.)    Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur- An adolescent genius meets a Red Tyrannosaurus Rex and the two embark on an adventure sure to thrill and delight.

.)    Thunderbolts- Villains masquerading as heroes. Villains loving being heroes. Some villains becoming true heroes while faking it. Team turned against itself as some villains refuse to go through with the evil plan and decide to truly become the heroes they were pretending to be.

.)    Doctor Voodoo- The world of Marvel magic has also been opened to us via DR. STRANGE and we already know Doctor Drumm’s brother was killed in that movie. In this film, Drumm is an ordinary psychologist who cannot stop dreaming of his dead brother coming to him and teaching him magic every night. When a client of Drumm’s turns up dead in a way that does not make any sense to the therapist, he goes too far in trying to figure out the mystery but emerges from the hit attempt changes. Dr. Drumm is no more. Please welcome Dr. Voodoo.

.)  Terror, Inc- Super hero noir with a dead man at the center. Reanimated by an ancient curse, Terror, a former Knight with a sarcastic sense of humor and a shield of cynicism designed to bury his compassion, has tried his best to stay out of sight and make a living as a PI who catches adulterers in the act. When a young woman comes into the office with a story unlike any other, however, he finds himself unable to say no and quickly forced to come out of hiding to save her and himself.

.)  Falcon- He’s charismatic, compassionate, and ready to go solo!

.)  Mosaic- The newest “greatest basketball player” of all-time is caught in an accident that turns out not to be and becomes a body jumping entity who can take over anyone’s physical body (sort of) tapping into their skills and merging them with their own. A conspiracy caper as he struggles to find who masterminded the accident and why.

.)  Winter Soldier- They stole his life. They made him a murderer. But they left him alive. Now he’s taking down the entire system that birthed him.

.)  Nova- Again, let’s play in that space space. The Nova Corps is nearly dead after the events of GotG and subsequent years of fall out. In desperation, a helmet is sent out to search for a hero, a helmet that finds a 20-something Rich Rider. Can he save the Corps? Does he even want to?

.)  Sleepwalker- After making the Negative Zone look so incredible, we are turning our lens to the Mindscape, dwelling place of the creature known as Sleepwalker. But that’s the not the only place the action will occur. Every night when Rick Sheridan slumbers, Sleepwalker emerges into our world to patrol the night and protect those who sleep, unprotected and unaware of the evil that draws ever closer.

.)  Union Jack- Can Marvel go international? You are damn right it can! Britain’s working class hero steps into the spotlight to ignore the British class system and save the Isles no matter what people think of him. Debating if we want to go supernatural with this one, given Jack’s history with vampires. Maybe Baron Blood can be an incredibly charismatic and dangerous villain?

.)  Vision- Can a super hero robot have it all—a job, a family, a colonial with a white picket fence in the suburbs? Signs put to no, with dire cosequences.

.) Wonder Man- Arrogant Hollywood actor and heir to a fairly large family corporate fortune, Simon Williams finds himself gaining strange abilities but has ignored them for years. Then his father’s death triggers a series of events that brings long buried family secrets to his front door in the form of an unknown half-brother who calls himself “The Grim Reaper.”

.)  Darkhawk- For a little while, Chris Powell has been secretly using an amulet he found amongst his dad’s things after his father’s passing to fight petty crimes in and around his New York neighborhood. However, when an alien being comes calling looking for the amulet, Powell will realize he has far more power than he ever knew and is in far more danger than he’s ever been before.

.) Doc Sampson- As you know, comic book movies can be anything. So why not a straight comedy where this super powered therapist works with other super powered people and tries to negotiate a life away from the action while still doing good for the world.
