January 23, 2020: Imitation of Life

Eyes growing wide.
Heart races.
This is the place, the time, the moment.
There are moments we will not remember that nonetheless are tattooed on our souls.
Our personal collective unconscious.
Joy that enters the veins, that becomes part of our very body.
It can be this way with pain as well but it does no good to dwell on that.
Sure anguish can rewrite as surely as bliss but why derail bliss to recall that truth?
We will be linked by this forever.
Time will pass, we will almost certainly drift apart.
But this experience? It casts an invisible tether between us.
We will see one another and no matter how our feelings have changed we will know it.
Our inner selves will recognize it.
There will be warmth there, even if it passes by without our conscious thought.
This is us. In this moment, this is us forever.
A delight written in our hearts, recorded on our skin, living in our minds.
